Unpacking Tips in Your New Home

Unpacking your belongings after you move is probably the most unwanted and hated part of moving into a new home. Most people find this part overwhelming.

The sheer sight of the many boxes and furniture waiting to be organized is sight that can unsettle lots of people.  Planning the unpacking really begins far ahead.  Here are some unpacking tips to help you along the way…

Pay Attention When You Pack

Packing should be done according to what you keep in each room.  For example, all the stuff you keep in the kitchen should be together. Use similar colored boxes or cartons, labels and marker pens to put contents on the box as you pack. Do not save this for later as chances are you will forget what you packed in the first place.

Visit Your New Home Ahead

Visit your new home to get an idea about its layout even before you start unpacking- it would be even better to take down notes and measurements. Work with a plan to ascertain advance where to put your things like furniture, electronic appliances and bookshelves. Visualize and plan what it will look like.

First Things First

Moving in bulky items like furniture, equipment and home appliances such as refrigerators, ovens and cupboards on your first day of unpacking will certainly be one big thing taken care of.

Instruct Your Moving Company

Tell your movers and packers to place boxes or cartons in their respective rooms. All boxes labeled “kitchen” should go in to the kitchen, books in the library and so on. Labeling while packing, if done properly, will ensure that there is clarity on what goes where when you get around to moving in and unpacking.

Planning is the key

Moving in is quite a difficult and challenging job, which is why it should be executed in a planned and organized way. A spreadsheet with a checklist prepared ahead of your move, broken down by day and week targets should be prepared to make your work easier.

Comfort Comes First

Organize your bedroom first. Place the beds in the right place. Positioning beds correctly ensures that you that you will have a comfortable place to rest at the end of the day.

The Bathroom

Once you have a comfortable bed to sleep and relax in the next thing on the agenda would be getting on with your personal hygiene. To get cleaned, washed and refreshed before you tackle the rest of the unpacking it is important that you unpack bathroom items and put them in their appropriate place.

The Kitchen

The next thing to do is to unpack boxes or containers containing kitchen items. Put kitchen items in the kitchen. Arrange them in properly. Put all items of crockery and cutlery that you will need in place. Also fill up on essentials like milk, sugar, coffee, tea, bread and some ready to eat meals.

Opt For Professional Help

If you still worry that you may not have the time unpacking requires, you should hire professionals to do the job for you. There are a number of moving companies that offer hassle free packing and moving services which also include unpacking of goods. To reduce your carbon footprint, opting for a green moving company also makes a great deal of sense.
