Currency Exchange in Dominican Republic
The money that is used officially in the Dominican Republic is known as the Dominican peso oro. The coins do not have the word oro on them, however, and as of the year 2011 the bills will bear the new name peso Dominicano rather than peso oro. Many businesses in the tourist areas also accept currency in dollars and euros as well. The US Dollar was also the official currency briefly in between the years 1905 and 1947, and it continues to be a official reserve currency with the Banco Central de la Republica.
