Question in Travel & Tours

Question : Is Checkpoint Charlie named after Charlie Chaplin?

Answer from Matt Robinson, expert in Travel and Tours

Checkpoint Charlie was the third military crossing point in Berlin, part of a long road leading from West German to East Berlin during the Cold War. The previous two crossing points were named Alpha and Bravo, after the NATO radio code. Thus the third crossing point is named after the third signal in the code, Charlie.
