Health Care in Kuwait

Kuwait's healthcare system makes use of the latest technologies in the medical field. The country’s health care system has improved dramatically in the years following the oil explorations that brought wealth to its shores.

HealthcareKuwait's first attempts to introduce a modern health care system date back to the first years of the twentieth century.  After the government began earning oil revenues, it started devising a free health care system offering services to the entire population, from the locals, to expatriates and foreign nationals.

Improvements in the available health care in the country have been dramatic, with life expectancy increasing ten years at the beginning of the 21st century, thus putting Kuwait at a level comparable to most industrialized countries.

The general life expectancy for men in Kuwait is 75.6 years and 77.4 years for women while the rate of infant mortality is 1.1 %, a very low figure.  With the World Health Organization playing an important role in improving health conditions in the country, expats are always made to feel more secure.

Kuwait's extremely warm climate has made some diseases such as obesity, diabetes and skin problems very common among residents. However, the country's healthcare system is impressively efficient enough to cope with people's needs.

Considerable investments are continuously being made by the Government of Kuwait in order to improve the health conditions of the people. Hence, its people are provided with the best medical facilities within the country itself. Both the privatized and government funded hospitals in Kuwait are home to some of the best doctors of the world.

Over the years, different health related measures have been adopted to ensure a healthy living atmosphere for the people of Kuwait. With its people maintaining a high standard of living, it is important to note that no Kuwaiti family lives below the poverty line. The rich living environment in turn reflects better sanitation and Kuwaiti health.

Some of expatriates' major concerns when moving to a new country are health-related, especially during emergency situations.  In Kuwait, a highly competent and responsive emergency team is dispatched effectively with a single call.  Expats can call the national hotline, 112, for any emergency incidents needing medical assistance, fire control or police management.

In general, Kuwait's healthi care system is highly functional and responsive to the needs of those who need it, including expatriates.
