not sure what that was. class' no, we don’t. we definitely mind people who are nasty to us, and that’s mostly poor middle class. if that was British working in Poland, then they usually work in language schools. We certainly don’t mind that. if that was British working culture, then some aspects of it are lovely, some are choking. For example ten o’clock coffee break is cool, but the fact that breaks are counted to the minute like we were slaves, is not so cool.

Walnut Wine and Truffle Groves The expat community in Belgium never ceases to amaze me with its creativity. Today I am pleased to present one such creative endeavour. American expat, Kimberley Lovato, has just launched her first book, Walnut Wine and Truffle Groves. This book is about two subjects that are very close to my heart – food and southwest France. Walnut Wine and Truffle Groves is part travel book, part cookbook and part photo essay. Kimberley visited wineries, markets and farms...

In the comments from last week’s Ask an Expat, Julia left me this question: I think it's interesting that you want less from the U.S. I don't know what I'd miss the most if I left. Maybe ice since I hear that you can never get ice in your drink in Europe. Is that true' LOL, [...]

What's in your Google Reader' Today I'd like to draw a bit of your attention away from CheeseWeb and point it towards my ever growing blogroll. After stagnating for a year or so, I've recently discovered a whole batch of new and fabulous blogs. Many of these new blogs are from other expats here in Belgium. I thought I knew of most of the bloggers here, at least those in Brussels, but boy was I missing out. With the high expat turnover rate, especially in the capital, there always seems to...

This is what racism looks like. This is a message an Irish American, Mare Mayer, sent to me after I remarked on a hate link against the British which she posted on Facebook. I’m actually part Irish and my remark about stop hating the British for the potato famine of 200 years ago was meant to stop this stupid racist hatred. Instead I’m sent a hate email. I don’t like to generalize. In fact I find it hard to do because I have traveled the world and lived in many countries but...

What with election shenanigans, media manipulation investigations, and other fun and games, those watching Italy could, perhaps, be forgiven for thinking that Italy is one huge great reality show. A surreal mix of Big Brother, X-Factor, and Love Island, perhaps' Leading the Big Brother house, and all the other reality flavours, we have one Silvio Berlusconi, who is also participant, director, producer, and scriptwriter. Yes, recent events do seem to have converted the Living Museum into the...

My post on Eleonora Fonseca Pimentel was just named one of the top ten posts of the week at Italy Tutto! And here, I'd like to toot the horn of Italy Tutto along with its fabulous writer, SC Parry. We bloggers like to keep in touch within the on-line world and I've been in email contact with Ms. Parry before. But more importantly, I use her blog constantly to get excellent information about Italy. She keeps a list of all the extant blogs written about the country,...
