Expat Housing Services in Philippines

There is plenty of accommodation available in the Philippines, including rental properties. The rental rates are often much more costly than in many other countries, but are sometimes open to some small amount of negotiation. Rentals are not hard to find, and can frequently be learned of by word of mouth, or through advertisements on signage, in classifieds or the internet. Contracts are occasionally for 30 months, that is two and a half years, and a month's worth of rent may be the refundable security deposit. Renters are obligated to furnish info such as proof of salary, with employers even acting as sponsors. Utilities are often not included and are billed to the tenant directly.

What's more, when renting in the Philippines, property insurance is required by law, this insurance can be purchased through an estate agent and different extended policies can cover a great variety of circumstances, including theft, but not plumbing mishaps. Housekeepers, drivers, nannies and the like are quite fashionable in Philippine homes, including expat homes, as their services are often very cheap.

The Philippine government has been encouraging foreign businessmen to buy real estate in the Philippines, for instance by giving full purchase tax exemption. Only Philippine citizens can purchase rural land next to a border county, but everyone else can buy real estate without residency requirements.
