Current Account in Austria
The process of opening a current account (Girokonto) in Austria – the most basic type of bank account -- for expatsis quite simple. Choose a bank first, schedule an appointment, then bring the necessary documents required. Austrian banks usually ask for proof of identity, proof of residence (Meldezettel), employment details, and in some cases, a passport photo. You will then be given an ATM card (bankomatkarte) which you can use to get cash or make debit purchases in huge retail outlets.
