The Most LGBT Friendly Cities in the World
6 August 2015
Perhaps the most frequent LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual or Transgender) phrase says ‘Gay is OK’, but we all know that being a homosexual today is hard no matter where you live. Very often, you can read or even witness yourself how the so-called ‘gay parades’ end up and how much effort do homosexual individuals have to invest only to be recognized as equal members of society. Luckily, times are changing, and queer people continue to fight and achieve their rights around the world. Of course, there are areas where such rights progress slowly, but there are also regions where lives of homosexual people are very friendly. That is why homosexuals become expats in a way, and they move from their countries to some other, more ‘gay-friendly’ states. For all of them and for you who want to know more about ‘gay-friendly’ cities, we present you a short list of places where homosexuals can lead safe and dignified life.
Tel Aviv, Israel

It might be surprising that the most important cultural and financial Israeli center is a ‘gay-friendly’ city. However, once you visit Tel Aviv, you will see that there are numerous gay bars and clubs. It seems almost unimaginable, but there is a considerable tolerance among Tel Aviv’s citizens who support different sexual orientation. Today, you can visit the Tel Aviv Love Parade, which gathers around 150.000 people. Many of them are visitors from other countries. The city itself organizes a gay parade for 18 years, and participants enjoy the biggest Asian pride event with many activities being organized the whole day.
Barcelona, Spain

One of the nicest cities in Spain provides excellent conditions for gay people to lead normal and undisturbed life. Apart from the fact that Barcelona has great nightlife, you must be familiar with one tiny detail. Namely, gay people have almost the same percent of bars, clubs and activities just like the straight people. Everyone is used to homosexuals, and no one tries to violate their human rights because people in Barcelona know that every human being has its right to choose its life path.

Berlin is not just the center city of Germany but also the main center of LGBT community in entire Europe. Expats may be surprised to hear that Berlin's city parade is one of the biggest in Europe. But that is not all because here you can find many gay bars as well as a gay memorial and even a gay museum. So basically Berlin is truly a heaven on Earth for every gay person.
San Francisco, USA

San Francisco is often considered as the most liberal and gay-friendly city in the world, and some even consider it as the capital city of whole LGBT community. There are many reasons for that belief especially if you consider a high number of gay bars, publications and other homosexual attractions that can be found here. California is very proud of its gay community, and if you visit San Francisco, you will see it for yourself right away.
Amsterdam, Netherlands

This city does not need any special presentation when it comes to gay rights and culture in general. Amsterdam is one of the most open-minded centers in the world, just remember that The Red Lights District is located here. Gay parade in Amsterdam is one of the largest public events in the whole country, and several hundred thousand visitors come to attend it every year.
London, Great Britain

London has the biggest gay community in Europe, and it is not strange that this city has a diverse gay nightlife. But that is not all because the gay culture has a crucial role in Britain and many gay people from all around the world come here for holidays. Being a gay in London is more than a pleasant experience so expats won't have any troubles adapting here.
Paris, France

Paris is definitively a city of love, and all gays can easily see that for themselves as soon as they arrive there. This city is an enormous center of fashion and design, and it even had an openly gay mayor, so you get the picture about the situation with LGBT community there.
New York, USA

Well, if you know that the gay pride movement started in New York you also won't have any doubts about gay-friendliness here. There are so many gay bars, magazines, events, etc. that you can feel the pleasant atmosphere in every corner of this amazing city.
As you may notice, most of the ‘gay-friendly’ cities come from the United States and Western Europe. So, it seems reasonable to pop a question like ‘What other parts of the world are waiting for?’ It looks like we will have to witness more pride events and even more fight to enable these people to live with head held high. Let’s hope that the next ‘gay-friendly’ list will be longer.
