US Expat Tax in Chile

American expats residing in Chile should be aware that they are still required to file an income tax return and pay taxes on their worldwide income. Aside from the income tax return, expats from the U.S may also be asked to comply with Foreign Bank and Financial Account Reporting and Financial Asset Reporting. They must be extra careful in filing reports as penalties may be earned for incorrect reports. During the first three years of living in Chile, American expats pay income taxes only on their Chilean-source income.
