Under the Law No. 230 of 1996, foreign nationals are allowed to purchase real estate in Egypt. However, they are not allowed to buy more than two properties, and these properties cannot exceed 4,000 square meters. The purpose of expat buyers must be that for a family member to live in the property. Additionally, purchasing a property must have the approval first of the Council of Ministers. This process takes approximately two months. Expats are advised to do some research to locate real estate in areas that are not heavily affected by the riots and issues that the country is presently going through.
