Question in Family and Children

Question : How can I establish a close relationship with my child even as a busy expat?

Answer from Dr. Patricia Jaegerman, expert in Family and Children

I like to establish routines and rituals of connection with children. Having a time of the day when they facetime you, when you read a story together, or when you go through the events of the days while making dinner gives them a daily predictable opportunity to connect. Connecting does not have to mean having profound discussions or long interactions; connecting means sharing experiences, moments of joy, holding each other or working on a task together. Family rituals, like game night or going on a parent-child date once a month, also create a positive expectation for a special time together and an opportunity to connect. Be creative in sharing your interests, hobbies, and joys with your children as a way for both to enjoy the precious free time together.
