Question : How can I prepare my child for an expat life?
Answer from Dr. Patricia Jaegerman, expert in Family and Children
You are your child’s most important source of support and reassurance when faced with change. Your children need to know that even though there will be many external changes in their lives, the nuclear family will together consistently. Prepare your children to the expat life as a new experience the family will live and enjoy together. Normalize their fears and their apprehensions and convey that you will face those fears together. Depending on your child’s age and maturity, reassure your children that the experience will enrich them and the family. On the other hand, make sure your children can bring with them their more important belongings and that they will stay in touch with their love ones at home.
