Question in Diet & Fitness

Question : What kind of diet can I easily follow with the food available in Shanghai?

Answer from Victor Rowse, expert in Diet & Fitness

You can now find a pretty diverse range of international cuisine and foreign food supermarkets in Shanghai, so it is no longer as challenging as it used to be for those with particular dietary preferences. There is a growing community of vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and paleo eaters in Shanghai who all manage to fulfill their requirements somehow.
Local Shanghainese cuisine can be pretty sugary so not ideal for diabetics or those who are trying to watch their weight. But no matter what local restaurant you are in, you can always find healthy options such as vegetables and fish. For those who prefer the taste of home, there are now hundreds of western restaurants in Shanghai.
Being a vegetarian in China is getting easier but you still need to be specific when you order and speak up. Vegetable dishes sometimes come served with pieces of pork thrown in so be sure to tell the waiting staff that you only eat vegetables.

At the end of the day, when you can get almost any type of meal delivered to your door through Sherpas. For any fresh organic groceries delivered via Fields, there is no real excuse for losing control of your diet when you come to Shanghai.
