Expat Housing Services in Kuwait
There are plenty of villas or apartments available for rent in Kuwait, often in compounds, however it is illegal for foreigners to buy or own land in Kuwait. Most housing is in cities or suburbs, as the desert is inhabited primarily by Bedouins. Compounds are walled off enclosures holding several houses or apartment buildings, and foreigners will have their own compounds. Some compounds have their own shops, restaurants and swimming pools, as well as gymnasiums and tennis courts. There may also be a play area for children, and a meeting place for visitors traditionally known in Arabic as a majlis.
Housing for rent in Kuwait tends to be unfurnished but will probably contain a kitchen and free satellite television access to CNN and BBC. Some rentals can be found by word of mouth, but there are also real estate agents who can assist in finding rental property.
Average rent for a cheap one bedroom apartment in Kuwait starts at around US $750 per month. If the apartment is furnished, it will cost even more. Serviced apartments are higher still, and include such services as linen changing, laundry, and cleaning. Sometimes air conditioning is separate and sometimes it may be included with the rent.
