Expat Housing Services in Luxembourg
Finding available rental locations in most of Luxembourg can be very difficult and rental prices for accommodation is fairly expensive. It is for this reason that many people who have employment in Luxembourg will rent apartments or homes just across the border in one of the neighboring countries such as Germany, Belgium or France, where prices for property rentals tends to be relatively somewhat less expensive. Roughly three fourths of the citizens of Luxembourg own their own property. Rental housing in Luxembourg is usually unfurnished, but will include a sink in the kitchen. Owners do not usually advertise by means of window signs in Luxembourg. Rental properties can be found through an estate agent, but the agency charges a hefty fee which can be equivalent to as much as three months' rent. Available apartments for rent can sometimes be found through newspaper advertisements and bulletin boards. Property owners will usually also ask for a refundable security damage deposit which can be equivalent to up to three months' rent. Getting a tenant evicted under Luxembourgish law can be a lengthy process for the property owner, so landlords will most often wish to see information about the prospective tenant's employment and income.
