How does it work?

Moving internationally can be daunting. We help you complete your moving details and get the assistance of the best international movers.

Quick advice for a better move

  • Strip down to the essentials

You will be surprised at how much junk you can accumulate over the years and just left in storage to collect dust. Don’t waste your time packing things you won’t need, sort through your belongings and decide what you need and what you can throw out, donate or give away. It can actually be quite a liberating experience and give you a fresh start with your new move.

  • Packing smarter

Instead of blindly putting things into boxes, take time to consider how you will want to unpack everything, and what you will want or use on the first day in your new home. It’s also a good idea to pack similar items together and label the box so there is a logical flow when you have to unpack. Set aside what you will need on the first day so that they are easily accessible, including your phone and charger, wallet and any important documents you will need in transit.

  • Make a checklist

With any move it can be daunting just thinking about everything you need to do. A checklist will help you visualise everything you need to do and can also make things seem more manageable as you cross off items on the list. You are also less likely to forget to do something if you have made a thorough checklist, make sure you think about all the things you need to cancel before your move including gas/ electricity, TV or internet subscriptions or newspaper delivery.

  • Keeping it together

It might be tempting to stuff as much as you can into one box, but the last thing you want is for the boxes to fall apart! Be sure you check the bottom and sides of the boxes to see that there are no splits, also it is good to reinforce the bottom with extra packing tape. Once you have finished packing a box, keep them together and ensure that doorways and halls are kept clear so it’s easier for the movers to get around.

Customer Reviews

  • I was feeling pretty stressed out before I found ExpatFinder. It was my first move and I had no idea where to start and felt pretty apprehensive with all the horror stories that are out there. With this service I was able to get quotes from different companies, which all got great reviews and I ended up with a wonderful mover who were helpful each step of the way

    Erica Milowski
  • Having experienced a couple of international moves previously, this service was a blessing! I got competitive quotes from movers that were professional and efficient. All my stuff arrived in one piece and I didn’t have to constantly chase them on a delivery date, which is more than I can say for one of my other moves!

  • When is the best time to contact international movers?

At least two or three months ahead of your move is best to ensure you give yourself plenty of time to get organised. Leaving it until the last minute will only make the move more stressful, so make sure you have enough time to consider quotes and the benefits being offered so you make the right decision for you.

  • What should I do to get ready for the move?

Getting organised takes time, so it is best to start preparing as soon as you know you will move. Start by getting rid of anything you don’t need, and remember to clean out attics, garages and storage spaces. Make sure you dismantle any fixtures you plan to take and disconnect appliances and give outdoor furniture and equipment a good clean.

  • When should I book the removal date?

Like with most aspects of your move, it is best to give as much notice as possible. The best time to move will depend on a number of things, but it is important to choose a time that suits you best. You may consider factors such as the school term, the start date of your new job or sale of the house.

  • How long will it take to ship all my stuff to my new address?

The timeframe will depend on the destination, and can vary between moving companies. Your moving agent should be able to give you an approximate timeframe.

  • Can I take my car with me during the move?

It is best to check with your moving company to see if they can offer this service, otherwise you can get in touch with Car Shipping companies who specialise in transporting car.

  • Will I be able to take my pets with me?

Relocating pets requires different regulations and requirements; therefore many moving companies will not ship pets. However you can contact Pet Relocation companies that will be able to arrange the safe transportation of your pets.

  • Will my belongings be insured by the moving company?

What is insured will depend on the individual moving company’s policies. Generally movers will not cover valuable items that were not professionally packed, but items like books and clothing that were packed by you should still be covered. However you will need to confirm with the moving company.

  • How many quotes can I get?

You will receive up to 6 quotes from international moving companies that have been pre screened and matched to your individual needs. These quotes will be sent to you by email for you to compare and decide.
