Expat Housing Services in Oman

In the year 2006, the Omani government finally made it legal for citizens of foreign countries to purchase property in Oman in certain areas designated as integrated tourist complexes by Qaboos Bin Said Al Said, who has been the Sultan of Oman since 1970. However, the vast majority of expats working in Oman have to rent an apartment or a villa. Many new properties are in the process of being constructed in Oman, and it is usually not that hard to find available accommodation. There are relocation consultant companies that specialize in arranging dwelling accommodation for foreign workers in Oman along with other services. Many foreigners in Oman tend to live within separate compounds, areas enclosed by walls. These compounds might include other additional facilities such as a swimming pool or a gym. The average monthly rental price on a one bedroom unfurnished apartment in Oman can sometimes be as inexpensive as 750 American dollars. Furnished apartments in Oman will be a bit more expensive. Air conditioning is sometimes included within the price of the rent. The tenant may also be required to pay a local tax for upkeep of roads and trash collection, although in some cases this will be paid by the property owner.
