Jan W van Schaijik - Expat in Lisbon, Portugal

Q: Where are you originally from?
A: The Netherlands.

A: Lisbon, Portugal.

Q: What do you do in your new city?
A: Tax advisor.

Q: How is the quality of life in your new city in comparison to that of your home city?
A: In comparison to other places / countries I resided (at different stages in life), I am very positive about the quality of life one can attain in Lisbon and would regard the day-to-day difficulties many proclaim as mostly based on lack of comparability.

Q: How would you rate the healthcare system in which you are currently enrolled?
A: Very good quality / price ratio (as most things in Portugal).

Q: How does the cost of living compare to that of your home city?
A: As above.

Q: Did you use a relocation company to help you with your move?
A: No.

Q: How easy or difficult was the relocation process?
A: Easy.

Q: Did you move here with any family members?
A: No.

Q: What is your favourite mobile app which you use to aid you in your expat life?
A: Linked’In.

Q: What is one piece of advice you’d like to offer a new expat in your new city?
A: A bit of cliché, but I would advise to learn the language or at least be aware of what one misses out on by opting not to do so.
