Education Services in Puerto Rico

About nine-tenths of the people in Puerto Rico are considered to be literate. Schooling is compulsory and free for children between the ages of 6 and 16. Although most children complete at least eight years of education, there is a high dropout rate. About half of Puerto Ricans age 25 and older are high school graduates, and bachelor’s degrees are held by one-seventh of the population—nearly one-fourth of high school graduates.
