Expat Housing Services in Russia

In Russia, there are a variety of rental properties available with a range of prices. Some of the cheapest studio apartments in Russia start at around 300 euros a month, while a better apartment in some cities ranges from around 800 euros a month and up. Most rental housing is rented through real estate agencies that charge commission, though it is possible to deal directly with a Russian landlord who advertises in the newspaper.

Russian Rental control laws normally restrict landlords from raising the rent on a contract. Rental prices in Russia usually include many utilities such as gas, water, phone, and heat. The security deposit required for a tenant to move in is usually an amount equal to one month's rent and is payable as the last month's rent. If the lease contract is of indefinite duration, either tenant or landlord can cancel it on a three month notice. If it is for a fixed time period, then the tenant needs only a 1 to 3 month notice, and the landlord cannot terminate for late rent until it is six months late. Rent can be charged monthly or quarterly. The most elite housing in Russia is sometimes charged in US dollars.
