Education Services in Singapore

The educational policies of the government of Singapore fall within the scope of the Ministry of Education, which regulates the nation's private and public schools alike. There is a very high literacy rate in Singapore of 95.4% who are able to read and write in some language. There are private kindergartens that are open to Singapore students between the age of 3 and 6 years old. Primary school is required after this, whether public or private, and it lasts for six years. During these years pupils are placed on one of four tracks for secondary study. Most classes at Singaporean schools are taught in English, so knowledge of English is essential.


Public schools, although subsidized, are not completely free in Singapore - it costs around 80 Singapore dollars a month in primary school, around 130 Singapore dollars a month in secondary school, and around 240 Singapore dollars per month to go to college. Private schools in Singapore cost many times more, but offer a generally even higher quality of education for the students who learn various subjects in them.
