Education Services in Korea, South
Education is taken very seriously in South Korea, so there is a lot of competition among students. There is a literacy rate of about 98.3 percent of the population who can read and write the Korean language. Subjects that are emphasized in the Korean school system include social studies, math, science, and the Korean and English languages. There are also classes in other things such as practical arts, fine art, music and moral education in primary school. In middle school, some of the classes taken include ethics, home economics, technology, and Hanja - Chinese writing as used in traditional Korean language.
South Korea became the first nation in the world to give full speed internet access to all primary and secondary schools in the country. The school year is very long in South Korea - it lasts from March until the following February, with only two weeks between grades. There are also month long vacations in both summer and winter however. It is not required for students to attend high school in South Korea, although over 97 percent of them do. All students who attend a public school in South Korea are expected to wear a uniform to class.
