Opening an account for savings in Sweden is rather easy as all one needs to present to the bank is a personnummer, which is the Swedish identification number. The personnummer also serves as proof that an applicant is a resident of the country. To get it, an expat has to visit the local tax bureau or Skatteverket and register as a Swedish resident.
