Expat Housing Services in Taiwan

Many of the inhabitants of Taiwan live in high rise apartment complexes. Rental rates are fairly high, the cheapest flat is roughly 8000 dollars a month. A less expensive choice is sharing an apartment rental with other rent paying occupants, which can be as cheap as $2500 a month. Few residents of Taipei can afford the rent on houses, or even town homes because the cost is too much. Expats in the Republic of China will frequently discover available property by means of a real estate agent. Getting a rental without any real estate agent is somewhat more difficult as property owners in Taiwan do not prefer to interact directly with foreigners. Some landlords don't allow pet animals, whereas others do make allowances. The normal time frame of a housing contract is two years. Other administrative charges on top of rent are also billed to cover security, maintenance, cleaning, etc. A month of rent is required as a refundable damage deposit, and money can also be required for hooking up gas, water or power. A Taiwanese ID card and a statement from an employer are added requirements for renters. Tenants in Taiwan can also acquire household insurance policies to insure their belongings or furniture in the event of theft, fire, burst plumbing, or typhoon.
