Thailand has an excellent health care insurance system and is a place that foreigners travel to for specialized treatment. Quality health care can be had in Thailand far cheaper than would be possible in many countries around the world. There are a large number of dentists and opticians practising in Thailand in addition to the other physicians. There is a good chance that a Thai physician will be well trained and well educated and will know how to speak English. Thai doctors tend to be specialists who work in different hospitals.

 

Thai public health insurance makes all medical treatment completely free for citizens of Thailand, however, foreigners are not medically covered by the Thai State operated public health insurance program. In addition to this, many public hospitals in Thailand tend to be overcrowded, causing longer waiting lines for treatment. The larger private insurance agencies do make private treatment available in Thailand, and some even offer businesses special package rates that can also include life insurance for the workers.

 

The most basic level of health insurance does not cover childbirth expenses. Disadvantaged persons who need medical help in Thailand can also get it from organizations such as World Vision and the Red Cross.
