Education in the United Arab Emirates is compulsory for all children from the ages of 5 to 18. For locals, schooling is free but non-UAE citizens will be required to pay a free in order for their children to be able to attend government schools. Government-run schools and universities are segregated by gender, and the main language of instruction that is used in schools is Arabic, although there are a number of English-language and international schools present in the UAE as well. Around 25% of government spending goes towards education, which is reflected in the world-class standard of education that the United Arab Emirates displays.
